Hi! I’m Darwyn - a pianist, cellist, and music educator studying math and music in the concurrent education program at Queen’s University. Whether teaching a beginner their first notes or jamming with my string quartet, I’m all about making music feel exciting, empowering, and fun.
I’ve taught private piano lessons for several years, tailoring each session to the student’s unique learning style and personality. As a cellist and string ensemble leader, I’ve loved working with others to bring music to life, from school stages to long-term care homes through community outreach programs. Outside the realm of music, you will catch me rock climbing with my friends, skiing, or cozying up with a good book.
Music has always been my favourite way to connect with people, express creativity, and build confidence. I’m here to keep sharing that joy, one note at a time.
I've been playing piano since I was four or five, but didn't really become passionate about it until I was thirteen, when COVID-19 hit and I had time to discover new things about myself, including a playlist of pieces I wanted to play but couldn't yet. Fast forward several years, and I'm happy to say I can play every one of those pieces now!
Another goal of mine since thirteen was to achieve my Associate's Degree in Piano performance (ARCT) with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), and I'm very proud to say that I accomplished that goal in January of 2023 with First Class Honours! I've also played in a masterclass hosted by Remenyi House of Music with Rachel Naomi Kudos, won Best Advanced Solo in the annual Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association in 2022 and 2023.
I continue to study piano at Queen's University with Dr. Cynthia Tormann and my ultimate goal is to perform all four of Chopin's Ballades by the time I graduate! (Currently working on Ballade no. 4 in f minor <3)
I began playing cello at the age of 12 and accomplished my Level 8 certificate in cello with the RCM in June of 2024. I worked with the Intermediate String Orchestra at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts throughout 2024 to conduct and perform a La La Land Medley at their Spring concert and served as principal cellist of the Senior String Orchestra 2023-2024. I'm currently a cellist with the Queen's University Orchestra and working on Marjan Mozetich's Scales of Joys and Sorrows with my chamber ensemble!
I love performing, but I'm also passionate about teaching! My mother and I have been running Allegro Piano Studios out of our home since 2022 —a mother-daughter business that strives to foster a love for music through private piano lessons, regardless of age. My favourite part of teaching is being able to inspire my students to create musical stories with the pieces they learn and watch them love music as much as I do!
